GENERAL INFORMATION
                      LANGLEY RESEARCH CENTER FIRE LIDAR
                                FIRE IFO 1

The Langley Research Center FIRE IFO 1 lidar data contained in this archive 
is stored in five different types of files.  A brief description of the 
contents of each file type is given below. All files are ASCE except the 
image files.

1)    READ_ME.1ST            This file.

2)    USRGUIDE.REF           A user's guide for the Langley FIRE IFO 1 
                              lidar data.        

3)     TAPEnnn.PRO          File containing the lidar data originally in
                              magnetic tape number nnn.

4)    IFO1_nnn.LOG          File containing an short form of the logbook  
                              entries for magnetic tape number nnn.

5)    TPEnnnXm.GIF          An image file in Graphics Interchange Format(GIF)
                              containing the data in magnetic tape nnn.  The 
                              Xm where X is a letter and m is an integer,  
                              stands for a continuation of the data 
                              in tape nnn either because there was too much
                              data for a single image file or the data was
                              for different days.
