GEWEX-RFA Data Set Description Before attempting to submit data, please read "How to Participate" (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/GEWEX-RFA/documents/how_to_participate.html) and the "File Convention" document (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/GEWEX-RFA/documents/data_format.html) for detailed instructions on the data submission process. Please maintain a copy of this form for each data product (defined by _ as in the "File Conventions" document) you submit to GEWEX-RFA, and submit an updated copy of the file with EACH upload. This file will serve as the documentation for the entire data product within the assessment effort. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Project Title: GEWEX-RFA ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data product name: CERES-SRBAVG-Terra-GEO-MOD_Ed02d (_) 1) Contact for scientific questions about data Name: David Doelling Address: MS 420, NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23681-2199 Telephone: 757-864-2155 E-mail address: david.r.doelling@nasa.gov 2) What is the name of the original archived data set from which this GEWEX-RFA subset was produced? CER_SRBAVG1_Terra-FM1-MODIS_Edition2D CER_SRBAVG1_Terra-FM2-MODIS_Edition2D This data subset is only taken from the FM instrument that was operating in cross-track (XTRK) mode for the given month. Refer to the following URL of the recommended instrument for XTRK mode to determine whether FM1 or FM2 was used for a given month. If both FM1 and FM2 list XTRK for a month, the one that is in bold print is the instrument we used. http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/PRODOCS/ceres/SRBAVG/Quality_Summaries/srbavg_ed2d/recommendedInstrument.html 3) Is the original archived data set currently available from another data center or web site? If so, please list addresses or URLs: Yes: eosweb.larc.nasa.gov (Langley Atmospheric Science Data Center) 4) Brief data description: A reference or URL for the complete original archived data set documentation, followed by a brief summary of features of particular relevance to the RFA submission (such as gap filling method), is the preferred approach. (Items of interest: input data streams, name of algorithm used to produce data, start and end time of data, gaps in spatial or temporal coverage, and data quality issues, etc.). Please be sure to read the CERES SRBAVG Terra Edition2D data quality summary before using the data. This data quality summary gives a report on the quality of the data at the time of the data release. This is required for every user before they can access the data. The data quality summary is located at http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/PRODOCS/ceres/SRBAVG/Quality_Summaries/CER_SRBAVG_Terra_Edition2D.html Surface data are all from Model B. CERES/SRBAVG TERRA FM1/FM2 monthly mean data from 03/2000 to 10/2005, resampled to the GEWEX RFA 2.5 degree equal angle grid. This version uses Geostationary data to provide information between the times of the CERES observations. 5) History of updates and changes. If you resubmit a new version of any part of this data product to GEWEX-RFA, please use this space to record the reasons for the new submission (i.e., fixed error in ___ parameter; changed to area-weighted spatial averaging, etc.) Please specify the parameter(s) affected, new RFA number(s), and the date of the change. Rev1 corrections were applied to the necessary data products. An explanation for this is given in the Data Quality Summary. Corrections were applied before the data was resampled to the GEWEX RFA 2.5 degree equal angle grid. The following parameters have been corrected using the Rev1 scaling factors: Top of atmosphere: AALB, ASWUP, ATOTNET, CALB, CSWUP, CTOTNET Surface: ASWNET, CSWNET The following URL gives a table of scaling factors used for the correction. http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/PRODOCS/ceres/revisions/terra_rev.html May 15, 2007: Fixed error in top-of-atmosphere ASWDN global maps. The maps had been reversed so that they were North-to-South. Error has been fixed and these maps are now South-to-North. New RFA number for these parameters is RFA02. April 11, 2008: Two changes were made. Time series for nearly all variables (top-of-atmosphere AALB, ALWUP, ASWUP, ATOTNET, CALB, CLWUP, CSWUP, CTOTNET, and surface ALWDN, ALWNET, ASWDN, ASWNET, CLWDN, CLWNET, CSWDN, CSWNET) were extended all the way out to October 2005. Fixed error in top-of-atmosphere ATOTNET and CTOTNET time series. These time series had the Rev1 correction applied incorrectly. New RFA number for all of these parameters is RFA02. May 28, 2008: The Rev1 corrections had erroneously been left out of the global time series for top-of-atmosphere AALB, ASWUP, ATOTNET, CALB, CSWUP and CTOTNET, and for surface ASWNET and CSWNET. These time series now have the Rev1 corrections applied. New RFA number for these global time series is RFA03. June 3, 2009: Extending the record for the top-of-atmosphere ASWDN global maps. They had previously only gone through February 2003, but now extend through October 2005 just as all of the other parameters do. New RFA number for these global map files is RFA03. 6) Please provide a list of publications and journal articles pertaining to these data (if any); or a link to a bibliography for the product. When Langley DAAC data are used in a publication, we request the following acknowledgment be included: "These data were obtained from the NASA Langley Research Center EOSDIS Distributed Active Archive Center." The Langley Data Center requests a reprint of any published papers or reports or a brief description of other uses (e.g., posters, oral presentations, etc.) of data that we have distributed. This will help us determine the use of data that we distribute, which is helpful in optimizing product development. It also helps us to keep our product-related references current. 8) Please indicate below all data types currently included in the GEWEX-RFA archive for this data product.
