GEWEX-RFA Data Set Description Before attempting to submit data, please read "How to Participate" (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/GEWEX-RFA/documents/how_to_participate.html) and the "File Convention" document (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/GEWEX-RFA/documents/data_format.html) for detailed instructions on the data submission process. Please maintain a copy of this form for each data product (defined by _ as in the "File Conventions" document) you submit to GEWEX-RFA, and submit an updated copy of the file with EACH upload. This file will serve as the documentation for the entire data product within the assessment effort. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Project Title: GEWEX-RFA ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data product name: IPCC-AVERAGE_EdAR4 1) Contact for scientific questions about data Name: Stefan Kinne Address: MPI-Meteorology Telephone: 001 49 40 41173 383 E-mail address: stefan.kinne@zmaw.de 2) What is the name of the original archived data set from which this GEWEX-RFA subset was produced? IPCC-AR4/CMIP3 3) Is the original archived data set currently available from another data center or web site? Yes https://esg.llnl.gov:8443/index.jsp 4) Brief data description: A reference or URL for the complete original archived data set documentation, followed by a brief summary of features of particular relevance to the RFA submission (such as gap filling method), is the preferred approach. (Items of interest: input data streams, name of algorithm used to produce data, start and end time of data, gaps in spatial or temporal coverage, and data quality issues, etc.). More complete documentation is available at http://www-pcmdi.llnl.gov/ This data includes radiative solar and longwave fluxes at the ToA and surface from global climate models used in the IPCC AR4 modeling studies. The submitted data are monthly arithmetic averages over 21 long-term (100+ year) simulations and the years 1980 to 1999. Individual model monthly data were regridded from their native grids to a 1.0x1.0 deg equal angle grid before averaging over the ensemble. Degraded data at 2.5x2.5deg resolution are given for - solar downward fluxes at ToA - solar downward fluxes at surf -- clear_sky and all_sky - solar upward fluxes at ToA -- clear-sky and all_sky - solar albedo at surf -- clear-sky and all-sky - solar (planet) albedo at ToA -- clear-sky and all-sky - IR upward fluxes at surf -- all-sky only - IR upward fluxes at ToA -- clear-sky and all-sky - IR downward fluxes at surf -- clear-sky and all-sky 5) History of updates and changes. If you resubmit a new version of any part of this data product to GEWEX-RFA, please use this space to record the reasons for the new submission (i.e., fixed error in ___ parameter; changed to area-weighted spatial averaging, etc.) Please specify the parameter(s) affected, new RFA number(s), and the date of the change. Corrected for one input into averaging having ALWDN with the wrong sign convention. Corrected averaging errors, appeared from degrading data to 2.5degree in polar regions and involved no-data points which were falsely assumed to be zero (e.g. surface albedo). Affected all data, new RFA number is RFA01, submitted June 2, 2009. 6) Please provide a list of publications and journal articles pertaining to these data (if any); or a link to a bibliography for the product.
