GEWEX-RFA Data Set Description Before attempting to submit data, please read "How to Participate" (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/GEWEX-RFA/documents/how_to_participate.html) and the "File Convention" document (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/GEWEX-RFA/documents/data_format.html) for detailed instructions on the data submission process. Please maintain a copy of this form for each data product (defined by _ as in the "File Conventions" document) you submit to GEWEX-RFA, and submit an updated copy of the file with EACH upload. This file will serve as the documentation for the entire data product within the assessment effort. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Project Title: GEWEX-RFA ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data product name: UOSRML_Ed001 1) Contact for scientific questions about data Name: Frank Vignola Institution: University of Oregon Address1: Solar Radiation Monitoring Laboratory Address2: 1274 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-1274 Telephone: 541 346 4745 E-mail address: fev@uoregon.edu URL: http://solardat.uoregon.edu/ 2) What is the name of the original archived data set from which this GEWEX-RFA subset was produced? UO SRML Database 3) Is the original archived data set currently available from another data center or web site? Yes If so, please list addresses or URLs: http://solardat.uoregon.edu/SolarData.html 4) Brief data description: A reference or URL for the complete original archived data set documentation, followed by a brief summary of features of particular relevance to the RFA submission (such as gap filling method), is the preferred approach. (Items of interest: input data streams, name of algorithm used to produce data, start and end time of data, gaps in spatial or temporal coverage, and data quality issues, etc.). The original data are high-quality radiation fluxes from a total of 38 SRML past and current sites at 1-, 5-, 15-, or 60-minute temporal resolutions. Files containing the observed short-interval data for each site are available for download at: http://solardat.uoregon.edu/SelectArchival.html, and further information about the data can be found at http://solardat.uoregon.edu/AboutOurData.html on the SRML web site or by contacting Frank Vignola at fev@uoregon.edu Data from 1975 through 1994 is integrated data. Some data comes from digitized chart records when digitized data were not available. During most of this period, we used a datalogger built by us (the UO Solar Radiation Monitoring Laboratory), with a voltage-to-frequency converter that provided 5-minute integrated data values. The data was stored in 5-minute intervals, and calibrated hourly values were produced from these 5-minute data files. In 1994, we began using Campbell Scientific CR10 data loggers that sample data every second and average to produce 1- or 5-minute data values. The 5-minute data values were used to create the 15-minute data files. Data was printed out and visually scanned. Gaps were filled if backup data were available. Chart records were used to help identify bad data, and served as backup. Bad data were eliminated, and questionable data were edited or flagged, depending on the data available. Any edited data was flagged. Log sheets were used to keep track of maintenance and helped in data analysis. 5) History of updates and changes. If you resubmit a new version of any part of this data product to GEWEX-RFA, please use this space to record the reasons for the new submission (i.e., fixed error in ___ parameter; changed to area-weighted spatial averaging, etc.) Please specify the parameter(s) affected, new RFA number(s), and the date of the change. Files originally submitted as ASWDN were renamed to ASWDHEM on December 18, 2008, to reflect the fact that these data come from single instrument ("global") flux measurements, not the sum of direct and diffuse flux measurements. RFA numbers did not change as no existing files were replaced. 6) Please provide a list of publications and journal articles pertaining to these data (if any); or a link to a bibliography for the product. C) Ground-based measurements This data product includes data for Burns, OR (BUO), Eugene, OR (EUO) and Hermiston, OR (HEO). For each of these three locations, there are monthly averaged data (Parameters: ASWDHEM, ASWDIF, ASWDIR) in LST, and 15-minute averaged data (Parameters: ASWDHEM, ASWDIF, ASWDIR) in UTC.
