SOS99NASH_WP3D_ReadME.txt me file //************************************************** November 8, 2001 This document is intended to assist users of the NARSTO DES-formatted files containing data from WP3-D aircraft during the Nashvile 1999 Intensive Study. Background: Several research organizations participated the WP3-D aircraft component of the Nashville 1999 study sponsored in part by the Southern Oxidant Study. These organizations are: Aircraft Operations Center, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Dept of Commerce; Aeronomy Laboratory, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Dept of Commerce; Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, University of Colorado; National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR); Brookhaven National Laboratory; and University of Denver. Data obtained by these research organizations while on board the WP3-D aircraft comprise this data set. In all circumstances, all potential users of the data must contact the principal investigator. Contact information can be found in the header table of each data file and in the read-me files. Flights: There were 12 flights in the mission. The dates and flight numbers are as follows: Flight number 01 - 06/26/99 Flight number 02 - 06/30/99 Flight number 03 - 07/03/99 Flight number 04 - 07/04/99 Flight number 05 - 07/06/99 Flight number 06 - 07/07/99 Flight number 07 - 07/11/99 Flight number 08 - 07/12/99 Flight number 09 - 07/13/99 Flight number 10 - 07/14/99 Flight number 11 - 07/17/99 Flight number 12 - 07/19/99 Files: There are a set of seven files for each flight. All files are named with a prefix of " SOS99NASH_WP3D_". The next two characters correspond to the flight number (01 is the first flight which began on 6/26/1999, etc). The next set of characters identifies the grouping of data. Data from different instruments were typically grouped together based on the time resolution of measurements. Thus the complete data set consists of 84 data files (7 files for each of 12 flights) with the names NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_1sCHM_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_AERSL_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_AIRCR_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_CH2O_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_JVAL_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_NMHC_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_01_PANS_V1.csv ... NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_1sCHM_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_AERSL_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_AIRCR_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_CH2O_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_JVAL_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_NMHC_V1.csv NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_12_PANS_V1.csv and 7 informational files with the names NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_1sCHM.txt NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_AERSL.txt NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_AIRCR.txt NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_CH2O.txt NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_JVAL.txt NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_NMHC.txt NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_PANS.txt and this NARSTO_SOS99NASH_WP3D_ReadMe file for a grand total of 92 files. Please note that there were instances whereby an instrument was not operational for an entire flight. For these cases, data files exist, but the values consist entirely of missing values.
