Frontiers recently published Unraveling Mechanisms Underlying Annual Plankton Blooms in the North Atlantic and their Implications for Biogenic Aerosol Properties and Cloud Formation.

The NASA North Atlantic Aerosols and Marine Ecosystem Study (NAAMES) project was the first NASA Earth Venture – Suborbital mission focused on studying the coupled ocean ecosystem and atmosphere. NAAMES utilized a combination of ship-based, airborne, autonomous sensor, and remote sensing measurements to directly link ocean ecosystem processes, emissions of ocean-generated aerosols and precursor gases, and subsequent atmospheric evolution and processing. Four deployments coincided with the seasonal cycle of phytoplankton in the North Atlantic Ocean. Unraveling Mechanisms Underlying Annual Plankton Blooms in the North Atlantic and their Implications for Biogenic Aerosol Properties and Cloud Formation gives an editorial synopsis of several of the scientific findings from the NAAMES campaign. This e-book also contains 21 manuscripts that stemmed from the campaign.
