MISR Level 1 Data Products Enter Final Reprocessing Announcement

Project: MISR
The Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) Science Team and the Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC) announce the start of the final Level 1 reprocessing of MISR data products.
The comprehensive reprocessing will cover all Level 1 data products for the entire mission. The MISR team considers this to be the definitive reprocessing of all L1 data products, representing the highest quality radiometric calibration and geometric accuracy achievable for the Terra-MISR dataset.
The reprocessing is necessitated by ongoing improvements to radiometric calibration algorithms and geometric modeling techniques developed over the course of the mission. These enhancements will ensure that the MISR Level 1 data products meet the highest scientific standards for climate research, atmospheric studies, and Earth system science applications.
The reprocessed Level 1 products will include enhanced:
- o Radiometric calibration accuracy across all four MISR spectral bands
- o Geometric registration precision for the nine camera angles
- o Quality flags and metadata consistency
- o Processing algorithm stability and reproducibility
Technical Details
Important Mission Context: Reprocessing will take place in two phases. The first phase covers mission start through October 14th, 2022, during which time the Terra’s satellite was in an orbit with a 16-day repeat cycle. After October 14, 2022, the satellite is no longer maintaining this repeat cycle. Consequently, the second phase of reprocessing will use a different version of the processing pipeline that has been implemented for data acquired after this date.
